In a drive to increase teen membership, Boys and Girls Clubs have been hosting weekly Teen Dances at various locations. One of the teen members of the Joe & Anne Garcia Salesian Club has even been hired as a DJ at these events. His name is J.D. Vera but he goes by “DJ JAY-D.”
DJ JAY-D plays “clean versions” of recent R&B, Hip Hop and Reggaeton music. He is very technologically savvy and uses a laptop with DJ software and digital turntables when he performs. His appearances have become a big hit with the teens at the dances, and the organization pays him for his services through funds from a National Teen Outreach program.
“Boys and Girls Clubs has given me the opportunity to share something that I like doing and make money while doing it.” said J.D. when asked about his recent popularity. He is planning to start his own company and wants to begin performing at BGCA Teen Events nationwide.
